E30 Awards

The Young African Entrepreneurs Institute (YAEI) is set to launch the highly anticipated Emerging30 Innovators Programme on February 10, 2025, with an induction event welcoming the top 30 young entrepreneurs selected during the YAEIxAbsa Youth Entrepreneurship Week 2024. This initiative marks the beginning of a transformative journey designed to equip these innovators with the skills, mentorship, and resources needed to turn their early-stage start-ups into high-growth businesses with measurable socio-economic impact.

A Programme Designed for Impact

The Emerging30 Innovators Programme is a 12-month intensive initiative focused on unlocking solutions that address pressing challenges in sectors such as energy, environment, finance, social development, and technology. With a hands-on approach that includes business coaching, entrepreneurial development, and access to funding and markets, the programme aims to empower young innovators to transition their ideas into sustainable enterprises.

According to YAEI’s CEO, Risuna Maluleke, “The Emerging30 Innovators Programme is more than just an entrepreneurship development initiative; it is a movement dedicated to creating sustainable businesses that generate employment and economic growth. We are excited to work with these talented young entrepreneurs to bring Afro-centric solutions to the forefront of innovation.”

A Strong Ecosystem of Support

The programme is built upon YAEI’s VI-VS-VI venture transitional development model, ensuring structured support at every stage of an entrepreneur’s growth. Through partnerships with provincial governments, development finance institutions, and corporates, the initiative creates an enabling environment for youth-led businesses to thrive.

Head of Advisory at YAEI, Khensani Nyambi, emphasized the importance of this collaborative ecosystem: “Entrepreneurship has the power to transform lives. This programme is not just aimed at developing and harnessing entrepreneurship but breaking barriers of entry and/or sustainability within the entrepreneurial space. Through collaborative efforts we can create an entrepreneurial ecosystem that has markets and funding opportunities for startups”

Entrepreneurs Share Their Excitement

For the 30 selected entrepreneurs, the programme represents a game-changing opportunity.

Charantasie & Abigail Muller, the founders of Chronicles of South Africa, expressed: “We are incredibly humbled and feel truly blessed to have been chosen to be part of the 2025 programme. This opportunity fills us with gratitude and excitement. We’re looking forward to seeing growth not just in the business, but in our personal lives as well.”

Thabelo Mohlala, the CEO of MechaTech Engerineering Solutions, added: “It feels great being part of the Emerging30 Innovators Programme 2025, looking forward to leveraging the programme offerings and ecosystem. Hoping that the programme will propel us closer to our goals as MechaTech”.

Basesana Tsubane, co-founder of Airnergy and Tech Solutions, shared: “I am grateful and honoured to be part of the Emerging30 Innovators Programme 2025. I believe this prestigious program will provide a catalyst for growth, connecting me with key markets, potential funders, and investors. I am eager to leverage this opportunity to scale my business to greater heights, drive innovation, and create meaningful impact.”

A Year of Transformation

The long-term goal of the Emerging30 Innovators Programme is to establish sustainable enterprises that drive job creation, economic growth, and improved livelihoods. The programme will also contribute to research and development efforts aimed at influencing socio-economic policies in Africa.

As the entrepreneurs embark on this journey, YAEI remains committed to monitoring and evaluating their progress using a structured M&E framework. The insights gathered will not only shape the current cohort’s experience but also refine future iterations of the programme.

With a strong foundation in place, the Emerging30 Innovators Programme is set to redefine the landscape of youth entrepreneurship in South Africa—one innovative start-up at a time.
